I was in the first senior class in 1976. It was obviously the first year that the school operated. What fun, no one really knew where everyone was supposed to be at any given time. Coach Grace would write passes for those of us that wanted to go out to the field during study hall and take our own batting practice. He was a coach that I admired very much. Our first two weeks of practice in the gym we couldn't use our gloves. We had some tough hands and good skills.

I am now a professional ski racing coach, at a private ski racing academy, and think of coach Grace often. Leigh Mallory was our soccer coach. We only won 2 games that year. We had all been playing football while at other schools prior to CHS opening.

[8-7 is] a pretty good record for guys who hadn't played together until their senior year. A lot of us were cut from the various high schools we attended due to the fact that we would be going to CHS our senior year. I guess they didn't want to invest time in guys that wouldn't be around.
